Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the recent mass shooting during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, as announced by prosecutors on Tuesday.
Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays are now facing charges, including second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. Baker emphasized that Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a paradegoer, lost her life to a bullet fired from Miller’s gun. The investigation revealed that Mays engaged in a “verbal argument” during the parade with an individual he had no previous history with, Baker stated during a news conference. This dispute rapidly escalated when Mays drew his handgun, triggering a swift response from others, including Miller, who also brandished firearms.
Both Miller and Mays are currently hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the shooting, Baker confirmed. They are being held on a $1 million bond.
The tragic incident resulted in the death of Lopez-Galvan, a radio DJ, and left 22 others injured during last Wednesday’s mass shooting.
Furthermore, two juvenile suspects were taken into custody last week, facing charges related to firearms and resisting arrest, according to officials.
Prosecutor Baker asserted, “We aim to ensure that every individual responsible for the shooting is held accountable for their actions,” in a statement made on Tuesday.
