Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Saturday that a total of twenty-eight individuals were successfully rescued during what she described as a “historic” storm that inflicted significant flooding upon New York City. She further declared that a state of emergency would remain in effect for the next six days.
During a press conference, Governor Hochul provided the reassuring news that no fatalities had been reported as a result of the storm.
The relentless downpour led to extensive flooding in New York City, with notable rainfall totals of 5.86 inches recorded in Central Park, 8.67 inches at JFK International Airport, and 4.87 inches at LaGuardia.
The cumulative rainfall for the month in New York City has now reached an astounding 14.21 inches.
