The power outages and severe weather conditions caused by ice and snow have disrupted the plans of over 1.5 million customers and caused the cancellation of over 4,500 flights and delays for nearly 6,000 others in the United States on Friday.
The storm has also made roads dangerous and caused at least eight deaths from vehicle accidents in three states. More than 200 million people are under some type of warning or advisory due to the storm, with blizzard warnings in place for over 12 million and winter storm warnings for nearly 50 million.
The areas most affected by the storm are the East Coast, South, and Midwest. In Maine, almost 20% of tracked customers are without power. Virginia and North Carolina have a combined total of over 300,000 customers without electricity.
